Diabetes is a very disabilitating disorder that afflicts about four million people in the United States. It has been recognized as a disease since ancient times. The Greeks gave the disorder its present name which in Greek means "to run through" (Medical 456). Without it, the disease can cause major damage to many vital organs and eventually become fatal. It is recommended that people of all ages be tested for diabetes as part of their regular checkup. Otherwise, one could have this disease for many years before acknowledgment.
