Many authors today try to take the reader on some sort of a "journey" by reading his or her story, but few succeed. The majority of tales written in the last 100 years appear to be hackneyed and dull. However, once in a great while, there is an exception. …do not talk to him anymore or look at him lovingly. Now, all Arnold sees is the cold stare of people who want to know why he shot his brother. By writing such an emotionally draining and thought provoking story such as this one, Berriault allows the reader to be engulfed by the story and forever changed by it. Without stories such as this one, the world of literature would be rather depressing and inapt.
