The Italian Revolution of 1848

1848 in Italy was definitely a year to remember. It was a year when the people of Italy, who through nationalism, joined together to try to form one large country under one rule, an Italian rule. Italy at this time was divided into many different states. Austria ruled some parts, while others were profoundly independent, which followed the tradition of that of the Renaissance city-states. …a leader with brains. Without Cavour and his forged alliance with France, we would not be in the position we are today with a parliament and a constitutional monarch. Very likely, Austria would still be ruling much of Italy and possible more. So, yes, I can look back with surety and say we won the revolution because of help and a cunning mind. Any revolution that is to be won must have those two things.
