Symbols of Poe's poem The Bells

The poem illustrates four bells; sleigh bells, church bells, warning bells, and funeral bells. The four bells represent life, marriage, war, and death. …Tab/>Poe wrote the bells to stimulate the senses of the listener and to show how just a mere sound could either put a chill up your spine or warmth in your heart. Poe repeats the word bells to summon up the sense of the sound of bells themselves. This shows that even though all the bells have different sounds they are all still bells, and that they all have the same job.
