Summary of Glass Menagerie

"The Glass Menagerie" is a play being told through the memory of Tom, one of our main characters. It is opened with him talking to the fourth wall, not done again until the end. The play is set in the Wingfields apartment in the 30's. The Main door to the apartment is a fire escape, where Tom addresses us and where many of the major events occur. It symbolizes the escape to the outside world. …

…to a girl named Betty, much like Laura. The tunnel collapses and she can't get out of a predicament like this any more, the light is at the end of the tunnel, but a cripple can't do it. She has now been mentally marred, beyond her physical condition she has been given a very bad mental condition. Jim leaves, Tom leaves, never to be seen by the families again. The whole world fallen around them.
