…Civil War to an end as other Confederate field commanders followed Lee's example. After the war Robert E. Lee was almost tried as a traitor, but was only left with his civil rights suspended. and served as President of Washington College until his death in 1870. After his passing the college was named Washington and Lee College. To this day the memory of General Robert E. Lee lives on and is used as inspiration for many.
