Human "progress" has caused the extinction of numerous species and threatened our own ecological welfare. Human beings are not likely to give up the fruits of science and technology, such as electrical power or vaccines. Nor should we. But by now we have come to realize that human morals and ethics have not kept pace with scientific developments.
