…they all live on happily in the next world. You see, Edward didn't notice the house was burnt to the ground when he went back. During the torture in India he died and his soul returned back to the house he remembers. The family died in the fire but their souls lived on and waited for their father, they listened for him and when he returned they were together at last. And they were gone.
