…his life. He never had to change (bad). The lack of change actually saved him from despair. To me Oliver Twist is a progress. I would not call it a heroes journey, because in a progress the main character (Oliver) is not proactive and not developed enough to be a hero. I suggest that it might be a coming of age story, but Oliver really matures very little and hardly grows up throughout the book.
