After the Russian occupation in Afghanistan, there was some order and a group resembling a government. As time went on, the country slowly broke apart internally. Many tribes and terrorist organizations began to take control of regions and any sort of true government was lost. The Taliban took control mostly because there was nobody else ruling the country. …and less civilized. Both the methods used by Golding in the novel, and the events in the country of Afghanistan prove that when humans are separated from society they will become uncivilized. The matter is not whether or not a person will become uncivilized if they can run free in a state of anarchy or any situation without rules, but when will that individual give into man's natural instincts and become completely uncivilized and savage.
