Samuel Greg was seen as a good employer in the 1830s because then, the other employers were much harsher on their workers. I think that life was very hard for the parish apprentices. They had no freedom. All of their childhood was spent working and cleaning. But if they didn't work at the mill they would have been on the streets. So I think that life was hard but at least they had a roof over their head.
