Pip knew that education is deeply connected with the social status and when a wretched criminal (Magwitch) supported his education, he feared the response of Estella because of the widely diverse class system. This changed Pip for the better, since he finally sees Magwitch as the person he truly is. He learned how to be happy and to not judge a book by its cover.
