Rawls' theory of justice is seen as the solution to the conflict of interests in society, and revolves around the adaptation of two fundamental principles of justice, which would, in turn, guarantee a just and morally acceptable society. The second states that under utilitarianism, a slave's misery would not matter since overall satisfaction is increased. However, the life of being a slave is so terrible and distasteful that under the theoretical 'veil of ignorance', none of the decision-makers would allow it to exist, as this could include them and would be too much of a risk to take.
