"The Chrysanthemums" was a fantastic story that made you stop and wonder about what really happened in this short story by John Steinbeck. In Conclusion, Eliza's main struggle is with monotony of her every day life which suppresses her freedom, sexuality, and her desires as a women. These are all made worse by the tinker's short interaction with her because she wanted to break out of her cocoon and fly, but the tinker used her; thereby deepening her suppression of freedom, sexuality, and womanly desires leaving her and old weak women.
