Alexander The Great
Alexander the great was born in 356 b.c.e., and died in 323 b.c.e. He was the king of
Macedonia from 336 b.c.e. until 323 b.c.e. He was the conqueror of the Persian Empire,
and was one of the world's greatest military leaders. Alexander was born in Pella, the
ancient capital of Macedonia, the son of Philip II, king of Macedonia. Aristotle was
Alexander's tutor; he taught Alexander literature, science, and philosophy.

Alexander founded a number of cities, along his line of march. Greek veterans from
army settled in them; young men, traders, merchants, and scholars were attracted to
them; Greek culture was introduced and the Greek language became widely known.
Alexander vastly extended the influence of Greek civilization and prepared the way for
the kingdoms of the Roman Empire.
