"Boris" by Boris Zhitkov This story takes place in Leningrad in the year 1942 when the Russian-German war began.

Twelve-year-old Boris Macarenko explains how he struggled to keep alive in the freezing cold, but it was not easy with daily air raids and lack of food. …than fifteen Russian soldiers stood there with there guns ready! The German tied a white handkerchief to his riffle and waved it in the air, then the Russians came closer and an interpreter translated that the Germans found Boris and Nadia in the snow and brought them here to safety. The Russians understood and they were happily lead back home! In a few years, the war finally ended and the people lived happily once more.
