The Czar survived the 1905 revolution because it was not very well organised and the Czar, or rather his soldiers, responded quickly. In 1917, the Czar did not respond quickly, he was out at the front, something unnecessary and uncalled for in Russian society, and did not stand up for his autocratic rule when he needed to.
