to be strong and consistent with his policies. It was almost as if he was trying to please
people from two ends of a very wide spectrum. From this it can be said there were many
factors that aided to the demise of perestroika including Gorbachev himself. His
incoherent nature whilst trying to reform a crumbling system helped sentence it to failure
from the start.
