Defined: Violence which arises out of disputes or adverse interpersonal relations between employees and employers in and around their place of employment
Three categories of workplace violence:
- Type I - Stranger Violence - Stranger vs. Employee (armed robbery - 60% of all
workplace homicides)
- Type II - Client Violence - Client vs. Employee (military retiree attacks
pharmacy representative - 30%)
- Type III - Employee Violence - Employee

workplace violence to occur, take all necessary precautions to protect yourself and your co-workers. Know or be aware of the typical profiles and make-up of offenders of workplace violence (i.e. robbery, rape, etc). An employer should ensure that each supervisor is trained to recognize problem areas in his/her workcenter. They should be aware of any histories that may be associated to an employee fitting the profile of a typical workplace violence offender.
