Thermoregulation in Aves

Sweat plays an important role in temperature regulation. In cold weather sweat gland activity is limited. Panting also helps the body to regulate temperature. Expired air is warmer then inspired air. The expiration of water vapour increases the rate of evaporation in the lungs. The faster the breathing rate, the greater the heat loss.
