temptations. It seems as if this venture is Brown’s way of testing his “Faith.” And the story tells of his path downwards, with the loss of fidelity, and “faith” of both meanings. The form in which the devil appeared in is symbolic of how Goodman Brown really is or will become. Meaning that he is to be as evil as the devil itself or what his society and Puritanism fear and hate.
