Cooper makes it very clear that it is fine to have to have interracial friendship, but bad things can happen when you try too tie different races and romance together. Because this was written in 1826 when Native Americans were not seen as equals to whites. The results of interracial friendship won battles and brought two men closer together, but interracial love ended lives, and left the Mohican tribe with one member.
