Reviewing his life while in the early process of dying, Ivan Ilyich attempted to justify his past attitudes and pervasive shallowness. Not a lot of his thoughts, time, and energy had ever gone into introspection, religions, and spiritual life. He had not been particularly compassionate, charitable, altruistic to family and friends. …his family in their grief. I would do no less for anyone else. In the past, I have been a caregiver and hospice proveder. I've had a couple of experiences in which I have been there for someone who was dying in similar circumstance. What the bottom line was for them, whether all the issues were resolved or not, was to have someone's acceptance and presence with them, and not to be alone in death.
