avoid embarrassment was un-heroic, pathetic, and selfish. He is willing to die and leave his family all alone without a father and husband. He was willing to be called a woman. He tried to justify his actions as heroic and courageous, when they were just the opposite. He died to protect his name and to avoid embarrassment. John Proctor left his family along because he was selfish and a coward. John Proctor died for nothing.
