Taming of the Shrew
In Shakespeare’s comedy, Taming of the Shrew, Katherine and Bianca are different in their own ways. Katherine is the protagonist of the play and the shrew referenced in the title. She is the daughter of Baptista and the older sister of Bianca. She has no suitors because of her plain appearance and shrewish nature. Upon observing the shrewish characteristics of Katherine and Bianca, one can understand the differences between the sisters. The contrast between Katherine and Bianca is, in part, that Katherine assaults and disturbs the suitors through their ears, while Bianca pleases their eyes. One must also consider the situations Katherine and Bianca encounter throughout the play. Katherine and Bianca have several qualities in common but their personalities are very different.
