He knows he will not live forever and he knows that his daughter will have to marry sometime. He allows his daughter to marry the Prince of Naples, Ferdinand. He also knows that he cannot keep the other people prisoner forever, including Caliban. He sets them free and he too returns to being Duke of Milan.
