Stereotyping someone or a group is a bad thing because it does result in many unwanted events, such as a rampage in the streets which will get the attention the people need to get their point across that the use of the stereotype has this effect on them. Just remembering that not all stereotypes are appropriate and that some are offensive could ignore the violence caused by stereotypes.
