To begin the research I started with the most fun and most convenient way of finding information, the web. I was amazed at the hundreds of 'hits' I acquired using the keyword 'Schumann.' The amazement was quickly turned to frustration. Most of the sites just provided brief biographical information and a catalogue of his works. Interesting insights were gained from this book because it discussed how Schumann analyzed music through its formality, nature, and goals.         A final source I found of value was a book titled Schumann and his world. Much of the information in this book was a duplication of previous material. The most charming parts of this book are the handwritten letters that were copied directly from letters exchanged between Schumann and his correspondents
