Social construction affects everyone’s life and plays an important role in stereotyping men and women as opposites. Individuals of a society define masculinity and femininity as what has been taught to them while they were growing up be it by their family, friends, and media. When an individual thinks of a doctor, lawyer, priest, engineer, or manager they usually picture a male while nurses, teachers, and housewives are purely female professions in our society.

what society expects us to be. We know what defines masculinity and femininity as we grow older and if males show any type of weakness or sensitivity they are teased and harassed about being a “sissy”. Not every man and woman does what they are expected to do. There have been men that become nurses or stay home and do the cleaning and cooking but these men are not looked at as ideal role models.
