only white man there and already in a position of authority, he still wanted to be accepted by these “yellow faced” people. He talks so badly about them, but if he did not care, he would not have had such a hard time in his decision of whether or not to shoot the elephant. Instead of backing down from the ravaging mob, he should have stuck with his beliefs and stood up to the crowd.
