Shakespeare’s sonnets have a common theme of love and longing. There is
also the theme in sonnet eight of a lasting legacy. Not his legacy which in the
book of sonnets is spoken about many times, but the legacy of having a
child. The idea of having someone of your same blood carry your genetics after
your long gone and dead. In Shakespeare’s eyes if you die with out having a child

going and you will soon be lost and incomplete. The question is do you want it
that way? There is a very compelling argument which Shakespeare puts forth.
especially in the Elizabethan age. There are still plenty of people who have the
same beliefs today but things have changed vastly in western society. So
Shakepears argument was that much more credible.
