The play shows this through premonitions of tragedy and fate, whereas the movie portrays an accidental chain of events that lead to tragedy. Luhrmann genuinely does a great adaptation from play to film and manages to create a movie that is remarkably faithful to the play's vision and sense of tragedy without drastically changing the play.
