Romans violence obsession

From the ground up, Rome was built on violence. From the hills in Palatine, to the conquests of the Roman Empire at its height; Rome was violent. The Romans reveled in death. Political leaders pitted their own armies against one another as a lifestyle. Violence was not merely a side show in Roman culture, it was the main attraction. …of barbarians arrived at the very gates of Rome that the Romans realized their fatal mistake. The start of their Empire was bloody as was its ending. Romans were too busy either watching slaves kill other slave, or they were too busy fighting each other to protect the borders from invasion. It took a barbarian with the biggest army of the bunch to install himself as emperor, and quell the violence under a new order.
