The “Roaring Twenties” had come to an end. It was October 29, 1929, the market crashed and
stocks lost almost half of their value , with dow jones falling from 452 to 58 in one day. A
symbolic beginning for rough times ahead. A country’s main source of prosperity nearly vanished,
as the automobile and construction industry came to a halt. Purchasing power was unevenly
distributed, huge land loans could not be paid off and banks began to fail.

people who fought to live during the depression. These times must be remembered, as our lives
seem incredibly easy compared to those who lived during the Great Depression. Their suffering
and anguish helped to build what our country has become, as their lives were jeopardized for the
sake of our nation.
