Response to “The Story of a Scar”

Even though this story was once again about a screwed up relationship that ended in catastrophe, in the end the two main characters learn something from each other. The story starts out in a doctors office with two patients waiting. One of which is a black man and one is a woman with a scar down her entire face. The black man decides to ask as politely as he can about the scar on her …

…he had done. She downsizes everything to make it sound reasonable. It turns out she has been to a few doctors trying to rid herself of this scar. She asks if the black man thinks he can help her with the scar. The black man reassures her and she seems quite relieved. He then realizes that througout the entire story he forgot to ask what her name was, the singly most important question of all.
