I think Harper Lee uses Scout as a way of voicing her own opinion on racism. She thinks people should not judge by the colour of a person’s skin or their ‘history’. They should take them as they are just like Scout learns to from Atticus when he says ‘you don’t really know a person until you get up and walk around in there skin’.
