The first work that I visited was Pietro Lorenzetti’s “panels from an altarpiece showing the Enthroned Virgin and Child, with kneeling donor and angels.” The piece immediately caught my eye because of its resemblance to two other works from the Pre-Renaissance, Cimabue’s “Madonna Enthroned” and Giotto’s “Madonna Enthroned.”

Because a lot of their work was done on-sight, outdoors, they were interested in the position of the sun for reflections and shadows.
This particular painting was done on a boat. The trees are a range of lime greens. The use of blues and greens captures the landscape as if it is being shown on the most beautiful day. There is a sense of movement in the water with the reflection and in the trees.
