The desire to live a better life than you already have happens mostly in middle-class families. Even I have the desire to live a life with more wealth. In the story by Willa Cather, “Paul’s Case,” Paul’s passion for the theater and the arts influences him to want to live the life of the upper class. Paul soon realizes his own desire soon leads to his own destruction.

a wealthy gentleman was so intense that when he was presented with the opportunity he stole his fortune. What Paul didn’t contemplate is what he would do when he was finished spending his stolen fortune. Paul probably thought that he would return home without anyone knowing what he has done. When Paul found out that he was caught, the only desire in his mind was taking his own life in an act of suicide.
