the troubles bestowed to their loved ones. The tragic flaws of both characters also lead to the audience’s pity for them, and to their ultimate “heroic” status. Hamlet and Oedipus create themselves within the context of their flaws. Without their flaws neither Oedipus nor Hamlet would have been the tragic hero of ill-repute that they have become to be in modern times.
