Native History

One of the prominent themes in the study of Native American history is that of plurality. Across North American there have been, and yet endure, a myriad of different nations and groups. While each separate Native nation is unique, their stories often follow similar patterns. Henry E. Stamm, IV, in his work People of the Wind River: The Eastern Shoshones 1825-1900, and Professor Akim Reinhardt in his lectures both presented the histories of single nations: …

…the natives who actually conducted the attacks. The study of Native American history is not a simple one. A popular saying among historians is "History is written by the winners" and much of Native history must be viewed through eyes of those who would call themselves the victor, but perhaps the truth is that history is written by the survivors, as long as there continue to be Lenape and Shoshone people, their history will endure.
