Mighty Wedge of Class
This man who had been raised in a working-class family, and had jumped
into the middle class, has to deal with the vast differences between the two classes. By
becoming a writer, he made a better life for himself, but was socially distanced from his
family. Practicing the ways of the middle-class, while still carrying the thoughts and
beliefs his working-class parents had inflicted upon him, he struggled with his self

attitude. Instead of telling me to be a hard
worker, they told me to do the best I can, and so long as I gave it my best, that was
enough for them. They have always encouraged my creativity as well as higher
education. In the future I plan to make a class jump, at least financially if not socially.
And I hope to handle the differences better than the man in this story.
