Macbeth
The American heritage dictionary defines the word supernatural as an, “existence relating to outside of the natural world” (Dell 825). In the play Mac Beth, William Shakespeare uses the supernatural to captivate the audiences’ attention. While the play would have the same plot without these elements, it just would not be as interesting.

I feel Shakespeare uses this tool for several reasons; so, he did not become bored while writing one of his final tragic play and to leave the audience questioning. Questioning the appearance of the witches, ghost, and dagger, as to whether or not they are what they seem to be, or a hallucination only seen by the main character, Macbeth.
