…the universality of hero/heroines in literature, as well as cultural portrayals of this character. Confronting prejudices indirectly by examining a piece of literature can be easier to do than having students reflect on their present day prejudices (as this is much more emotionally charged than intellectually). From looking at cultural portrayals in literature, especially one as common as Cinderella, students can look at their own culture filtered through another. There will be no ethnocentrism.
