Introduction to report:
As technology improves day in day out, users of multimedia systems expect more detailed and higher quality video images and audio sounds. As part of this report I will be critically evaluating the compression techniques lossy and lossless, which are widely used to compress video and audio.
Through this report I will be looking at the following:
· Definition of lossy and lossless,
· What they are used for,
· How they are used,
· Future

errors occurring in transmission, since less data passes through in transmission.
Lossless on the other hand, can compress an image losing no data and making it higher quality.
As a result of this report it is not possible to decide which compress technique is better as they both have their advantages and disadvantages. The compression technique that is used in multimedia systems depends on the data, which is to be decompressed.
