He feels he doesn’t belong to any of the Churches, the sense of guilt stop him fully devoting himself to Protestant and the sense of rejection keeps him with the Catholic Church. Since his sonnets were written at a time of grief and desperation it is no wonder he felt guilty and rejected which resulted in his fear of death.
