Harrison was born into a working class family in Leeds, his Mother was a housewife and his Father a miner and later a bricklayer. Harrison attended Leeds Grammar School and went on to study Classics at Leeds University. Harrison has had a variety of different careers including being a teacher, a playwright and a journalist. The poem gives us an insight into how Harrison feels and the poems are written in a simple way giving an idea of what is happening.
