potential. He took too long in deciding and acting upon what he wanted to do. This gave time for Claudius to learn of Hamlet’s plot against him. This lead to Claudius’ being able to come up with a plan to get Hamlet before he would get him. It turns out that Claudius’ plan worked and failed. His plans worked because Hamlet was killed; it failed because his wife and he died along with Hamlet.
