Gertrude, since the beginning, may have been in control of the situations that occurred and just manipulated Claudius into killing her husband. Then arranged through an elaborate game of sexual tension and playing off tender emotions have Hamlet and Claudius finish each other off so that she may be the queen of Denmark, but have it all fall apart through a unseen poisoned wine goblet.
