In 559 BC a man became king of the Persians. This man would unite the Persians and conquer three of the four major powers of the ancient Near East in the first 20 years of his reign. In doing this he would start the creation of what becomes the Persian Empire. This man was Cyrus the Great.

Before it was clear who was gonna win. This did not help the Persian army, who ended up losing the battle. The last major battle to take place between Alexander’s army and the Persians was fought at Gaugamela in the summer of 331 BC. The Persians once again outnumbered Alexander’s army but his time the battle was fought on a very broad field, which allowed the Persians to take advantage of this.
