Fitzgerald’s “Hollow Men” is a poem, and Eliot’s, the Great Gatsby is a novel, but both produce a similar theme and feelings about mankind during the Jazz Age. Both of them see the shallow and emptiness of man, and the self-seeking goals. One of the only differences is that Fitzgerald leaves the reader with no hope for future change; while Eliot gives a character who appears will make a difference.
